well sometimes we got problem with the kernel and we need to recompile the kernel :S

so this is a quik one to show how to do it:

[+]first of all we open a new console an cd to

cd /usr/src

[+]we download the latest SRC of the kernel[/code]

http://kernel.org/pub/linux/kernel/v2.6/linux-2.6.26.5.tar.bz2

[+]we unpack the kernel...

tar xjf linux-2.6.26.5tar.bz2

[+]we create a symlink to the linux kernel SRC directory

ln -s linux-2.6.26 linux

[+]copy the the config file

cp /route/of/theconfig.txt /usr/src/linux/.config

[+]now we compile and we create the modules,to do this we cd to linux

cd linux; make bzImage && make modules && make modules_install

we wait a while until all process is done and we pray xD
[+]we are almos done now we copy the kernel image to the /boot/ directorie

cp arch/i386/boot/bzImage /boot/vmlinuz-2.6.26.5

[+]now we open the /etc/lilo.conf with your favorite editor and we do:

nano /etc/lilo.conf

[+]add this lines :

image = /boot/vmlinuz-2.6.26.5
root = /dev/hda1
label = Slackware
read-only]

[+]done we save the changes ctrl(plus)o then ctrl(plus)x

[+]we execute

lilo -v

we restart and there u done we most be working your new kernel recompilated :s
